Lucas Sims and Luis Garcia Scheduled to Make Rehab Starts

Sims in Worcester, Garcia in Greenville

Boston Red Sox relievers Lucas Sims and Luis Garcia are both scheduled to make rehab starts on Tuesday, July 12. Sims will start for the Worcester Red Sox, Boston's Triple-A affiliate, while Garcia will start for the Greenville Drive, Boston's Single-A affiliate. Both pitchers have been on the injured list since early June with right lat strains.

Sims' Return

Lucas Sims will be making his second rehab start. He allowed four runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings in his first start on July 5. The Red Sox are hoping that he can build on that outing and throw more innings on Tuesday. Sims has been one of Boston's most effective relievers this season, with a 3.46 ERA in 26 innings pitched. He has struck out 32 batters and walked just six.

Garcia's Return

Luis Garcia will be making his first rehab start. He has been on the injured list since June 8. Garcia has a 4.09 ERA in 30 1/3 innings pitched this season. He has struck out 30 batters and walked 12. The Red Sox are hoping that Garcia can return to the bullpen and provide them with some much-needed depth.

The Red Sox are currently 46-40 this season and are in third place in the American League East. They will be hoping that Sims and Garcia can return to the team and help them make a push for the playoffs.
