Having proven his climbing credentials on the Vuelta a Burgos, Jay Vine is aiming to become the first Australian to win a stage at the Vuelta a Espana.
Vine was in impressive form on the opening day of the Vuelta, finishing 13th on the 7.1km time trial in Utrecht.
The 26-year-old is part of a strong Alpecin-Deceuninck team that includes Vuelta veteran Robert Gesink and former Giro d'Italia stage winner Dries Devenyns.
Vine is confident that he can challenge for a stage win on the Vuelta, and he is particularly looking forward to the mountain stages.
"I'm really excited for the Vuelta," Vine said. "I think it's a really good course for me, with lots of climbing. I'm feeling good and I'm confident that I can do well."

Luke Durbridge (Team BikeExchange-Jayco) is another Australian rider who could be a contender for a stage win. Durbridge is a time trial specialist, and he could be in contention for the opening stage.
