Arizona Coyotes Stadium Vote

Tempe Votes Against Arizona Coyotes Arena Proposal

Initial Results Show Majority of Voters Opposed to Project

Arizona Coyotes Concede Defeat

According to initial results from a special election held on Tuesday, Tempe voters have overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to build a new arena for the Arizona Coyotes NHL team. The results, which were released on Wednesday morning, show that 56% of voters opposed the project, while 44% supported it.

The Arizona Coyotes released a statement shortly after the results were announced, conceding defeat. The team said that it was "disappointed" by the outcome of the vote, but that it would "respect the will of the people of Tempe." The Coyotes also said that they would continue to explore other options for a new arena.

The proposed arena would have been built on land owned by the city of Tempe, near the Loop 202 freeway. The project was estimated to cost $2.1 billion, and would have been funded through a combination of public and private money. The city of Tempe would have contributed $200 million to the project, while the Coyotes would have contributed $500 million. The remaining $1.4 billion would have been raised through private financing.

The Coyotes have been playing their home games at Gila River Arena in Glendale since 2003. However, the team has been looking to build a new arena for several years. The proposed arena in Tempe was seen as a potential solution to the team's long-standing arena problems.

The defeat of the arena proposal is a major setback for the Arizona Coyotes. The team has been struggling to attract fans in recent years, and the lack of a new arena was seen as a major obstacle to the team's future success.
